The shadows that she noticed on the lawn inspired her to develop the technique that, in contrast did not portray the object she chose onto canvas. Rather the subject is transformed into a re-creation of itself and the canvas transforms into the medium for it's personal interpretation by painting, particularly in the case of alive or perishable for example, like humans or fruit. The transient nature of her art style is apparent and what survives in Alexa Meade's works is a photographs. Photography and painting techniques closely synchronized, which results in a flat two-dimensional space that achieves trompe l'oeil. Only certain elements of the picture, like the hair or eyes, show the three-dimensional dimension. Meade sometimes integrates her paintings into the 3-dimensional world around her. They are able to interact with the self-created world. It eliminates any distinction between photography, painting, and installation.
