Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a reporter for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. Mitchell joined CBS subsidiary WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In Washington she was made general correspondent by NBC News two year later. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell is a former panelist and anchor of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell also participated as a panelist in the 1988 debates with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell covered the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. The reporting she did included plenty of significant stories, including the Iran-contra affair, the tax and budget reforms and also the arms control. She traveled widely with President Reagan to meet with Mikhail Gorbachev.
